Getting into social media marketing, or if you want to just call it digital marketing also, but we'll just stick to social media marketing, getting into it today is much easier than previously. And the reason for that is so many companies, they're doing things different from the Silicon Valley, companies such as you know, the big social media companies, Facebook, Google, so on and so forth. They're not really requiring a whole lot of college education, people are doing so many things without college degrees in this field, and that's because the only thing that really matters is what they're seeing, the only thing that really matters is results. Now, having a degree can be It can't hurt, it obviously can't hurt and I'm sure through some jobs, you know, companies are asking for but now, a lot of companies are not asking for a college degree. But today we're going to talk about we're gonna talk about a few things, we're going to talk about how you can become a social media marketer without a degree. And I'm gonna give you a couple of things to do.

Also to get experience, I found a cool article is called Corporate. On some website, I've never heard of this website, corporate training. It's a blog, it's called "How To Get Into Digital Marketing Without A Degree." And they have some really cool some cool information on the site, they sources a site called Digital Donut. And they're just telling you some of the skills that you need to become a rock star in social media marketing, or they say digital marketing. Some of those skills are writing and editing, data analysis. And that's good data analysis that's good for analytics. Because you're going to use a lot to rely a lot on your analytics, if you are creating content for any social media sites, like I'm gonna say, YouTube, any of these sites because you you want to know the numbers. You want to know your key performance indicators or KPIs.

But writing and editing I said that previously writing and editing, content writing, whether it's something on a blog, or if it's something in the copy on like Tiktok, or the copy on YouTube, that stuff is important nowadays, and it's talking about SEO, social engine marketing, also, which is SEM, but SEO is search engine optimization. Those are cool and awesome skills. They have listening, social listening, e mail marketing, CRM, social media, social media, advertising, basic design, mobile marketing is what they're saying. In here, they're just giving you things such as the you know how you should lay the groundwork, if you're job hunting, and some certifications that can help you also instead of focusing on a degree on a college degree, they're saying focus on some of the certification and one of them is Google and certification. It says with this free training, you'll learn all about search display video, shopping ads, plus measurement of results. That's where the analytics come in at many entry level Digital Marketing jobs require this certification.

Another one is Google Analytics Academy says it teaches beginners and experienced users how to grow online through data tracking and like I talked about before Analytics web analytics tools. Hootsuite Hootsuite Academy. Through HootSuite you can earn the industry recognized social media certifications that will help you stand out from the crowd when applied for social media marketing jobs. Hootsuite Academy that's helpful also is HubSpot. HubSpot Academy, and I'll leave a I'll leave a couple of links in the show notes. I'll leave a link to this article right here. And I'll leave a link to HubSpot.

The HubSpot Academy this free course covers the basics of inbound marketing, including drawing in customers attracting leads crafting, engaging landing pages, writing strong calls to actions and growing an audience. So, HubSpot, Microsoft advertising certification professional, learn the fundamentals of search engine marketing in this free course from starting your first search, advertising campaign to optimization and managing your budget. You see that in all of these, almost all of these are free training, almost all of them are free training. So having these certifications way more than I've seen job describing many job descriptions, and then digital marketing and in you know, things that has to do with social media marketing, where they're asking about the certifications, also, so they can't hurt you. And they're free. Imagine that these companies could very well put a price on these but they don't for the certifications. So that's cool.

Other things in this article they're talking about following the one of the things you should do is prove you can do the work says Follow the digital marketing, leaders and trends, so on and so forth. And I wrote down a couple of things. The first one I first thing I wrote down was find your niche within a topic of social media marketing. So let's say if you're interested in something such as tick tock you're interested in not just tick tock and that's that's niching down real, real good. If you wanted to be a short form content expert, you can create content about short form content. So tick tock Snapchat, or you can just like I say you can just do something such as tick tock so TikToks YouTube shorts, Instagram reels, I say it Snapchat, Pinterest ideas. So there's so many short form content, things popping up.

People want to know about it. They want to know how how to how can a better they're, they're either personal brands or their businesses by utilizing these short form content platforms. Another thing I wrote down was just overall build a personal brand. building a personal brand is so important. I think everyone should have a personal brand. Notice how you ever notice how companies I'll tell you what, look at look at how many gone a platform such as I'm just gonna throw this out there Twitter, go on Twitter, and not just even Twitter, just anything. You can google Elon Musk's. See how many social media followers Elon Musk has? They look up Tesla. He has more followers than his companies than any of his companies. Personal Brand is a big thing. And you can look at so many people in so many spaces. People want to know about those people. They want to follow those people so they want to know what those people are saying those people are experts.

You can become an expert in your particular niche in social media marketing, so you need to build a personal brand. Another thing also answering that question, how can you become a social media marketer, without a degree is building relationships with like minded individuals or people that in your particular space, or building relationships within a community that's why you need a personal brand. Also, always be learning You should always be learning. Never stop learning. If you are the expert of a particular platform, like I say it for instance, and just for examples, tick tock, you should always be learning about the latest updates and tick tock, you should be the first to put out new content about the latest. So you should follow, you should find out who are the people within that company that put out the information. And you should want to deliver that information to your audience, create content, and always be learning you should always be learning about a particular the particular niche in which you represent.

Alright, I got three things right here, and I'm going to answer three things to do to get experience. So if you want to get experience, learn from social media marketing experts, learn from social media marketing experts, you can never go wrong in learning from whether it's a person in a particular niche, or if it's a person with a brand such as myself, or I'm not gonna throw myself in the same name, or the same lane as someone like Gary Vaynerchuk. But he's another one. Also, the thing about Gary Vaynerchuk is he focuses on where the attention is that where does everyone have their attention set. So it may be on social media right now. You know, he right now he talks a lot about Tik Tok and LinkedIn talks about YouTube shorts, talks about Instagram reels, immediately when the attention shifts to something else, whether it's social media or not. That's what he talks about. Because he he's real real in tune with consumer behavior, and where that attention where they consumer attention goes.

Also, the second thing here and the three things to do to get experienced, but to piggyback learn from social media marketing experts. That's number one. Number two is create social media marketing content, like I kind of previously talked about, talked about, about building a personal brand, building content, create social media marketing content on one or two platforms, I wouldn't if you're just starting out, I wouldn't use more than one or two platforms starting out. And you can always expand. So like I said, if you are into short form content, and you want to talk about TikTok, just talk about TikTok, or maybe you just want to talk about TikTok and YouTube shorts, and get good at it and build a following and then a maybe you want to talk about at Instagram, Instagram reels in that or maybe Snapchat, so on and so forth. So but start off creating content on one or two platforms, one or two platforms starting out.

The third thing to do to get experience in social media marketing is get a mentor, get them into it. Now, it's easier said than done. So why you got to build relationships. Get a mentor, that mentor can be someone at a company, you know, mentorship can come from maybe some sort of some sort of a community within that particular niche. It can come from building relationships on a site like LinkedIn, which has a bunch of professionals on there. There's lots of different things that you can do to get experienced. But those are just three that came to mind. There are a ton of ways to do or to pretty much to do anything in social media marketing, with no experience.
